Easy Relaxing Day in County Clare

The Burren Perfumery, Co. Clare

  • Head for Kinvara (on Friday there is a farmers’ market)

  • Then onto Corker Hill go right up over it (the middle road) towards Hazel Mountain Chocolate. Worth a stop, great coffee and chocolate! (and Honey Truffles)

  • When you leave head over the mountain and when you get to the other side- make a right to Bellharbour- go a short distance and make a right after the cottages of Bellharbour down a small lane- this will take you to some old ruins called Corcomroe Abbey. It dates to the 13th century. You will park and then walk around inside. It’s in great condition.

  • Leave Bellharbour and go back over to the mountain road and make a right there towards Carron (Carran) and the Burren Perfumery. There are a few small signs along the way but its best to put into the GPS. The Perfumery has a shop, demonstrations, gardens to walk in and a small café. Then possibly head back to Beside The Tide or…

  • On your way back if time and energy permit you might go to Ballyvaughn. This village has some great restaurants- Monks, L’Arco, Hylands Hotel, The Wild Atlantic Lodge and a fabulous pub called O’Loclainn’s Irish Whiskey Bar. (Several only open for dinner or weekends.)

  • There is also Burren College of Art which is open to the public most of the year, Burren National Park- several good hikes. Aillwee Caves and Birds of Prey, and Doolin Caves.

  • Please ring the restaurants to book and get opening hours.
